History of Wilcox Avenue
Welcome to more history of Hollywood and the streets that have become known just as much as the city.
It grew primarily as an affluent residential avenue of the early 20th century, by building of expensive luxury apartments. Wilcox Avenue runs north-south through Hollywood and west of Cahuenga Boulevard. It begins just north of Franklin Avenue from North Cahuenga Boulevard, running south crossing Sunset, Santa Monica and Melrose Avenue..
Harvey Henderson Wilcox, and his wife Dacieda, moved to Los Angeles from Topeka, Kansas in the 1880s and are one of the most historic figures and was a real estate tycoon. He lost both of his legs from a bout with typhoid fever prior to moving out west.
Rosemary Theby, silent film star lived at 1907 Wilcox Ave, which is located near Franklin Avenue. She in over 250 films, between 1911 and 1940. She was born in from St. Louis on April 8, 1892, and died on November 10, 1973 and was married two times to Harry C. Myers, from 1915–1938, and was married o Truitt Hughes until her death.
