Sports Legend John Madden Dies

A legend of the game and the broadcast booth has died at the age of 85. It was announced that John Madden passed on December 28, 2021.

A Super Bowl winner and the second-winningest coach in NFL history during a decade leading the Oakland Raiders, Madden retired from coaching when he was only 42 years old, “citing burnout and health concerns.”

John Madden was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and brought a sense of fun to NFL games during a three-decade broadcasting career; he won the Super Bowl in 1977 and his ‘Madden NFL’ — sold by EA Sports — became one of the best-selling sports video games of all time.

Madden was one of America’s most recognizable ambassadors of professional football players who reached millions from the broadcast booth and through his popular video games that bears his name.

In a statement from Vin Scully Twitter said, “I was saddened to hear about the passing of John Madden, at age 85. One the all-time greats, he showed me the ropes during our brief football partnership. He was always kind and delightful. He can now join his former partner, Pat Summerall, in calling Super Bowls in heaven.”

He as an American football coach, sportscaster and was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League for ten seasons, guided them to the Super Bowl XI championship. He was born on April 10, 1936 in Austin, MN, and Died December 28, 2021 in Pleasanton, CA. He was married to Virginal Fields from 1959–2021, and had two sons Joseph and Michael Madden.
