The team that Football lovers and fans of the team have come to love as the Washington Redskins will be making a name change of the team name after 87 years. One of the NFL’s oldest teams will change their controversial team name in 2020.

The team founded as the Boston Braves in 1932, by 1933 changed their names to the Washington Redskins and in 1937 relocated to Washington D.C. They immediately won their first five championships after relocating to Washington D.C.

In addition to NFL Championship Game victories in 1937 and 1942, the Redskins have won three Super Bowls, culminating their 1982, 1987 and 1991 seasons with Super Bowl titles.

After decades of being targeted to change their team name the Redskins will finally change it. The Native American have been fighting against this as be racial for years, and their fight is finally paying off. The team has not revealed the new name has not been released due to pending trademarks, but they will team colors.

The term Redskins is a derogatory terms towards the American Indians, known as scalping. It is the act or tearing apart of the human scalp with hair attached from the head, and occurred in warfare with the scalp being a trophy.

The Atlanta Braves according to team officials say that they will not be changing their names but will be looking at the effects of the Tomahawk chop by fans. The Cleveland Indians are also looking at possibly changing their name.
