Reflections of Democracy

In the history of America, 15 members have been expelled from the senate since 1789. During the Civil War 14 were expelled for supporting the Confederacy. There have been several other cases, that the Senate has considered expulsion but either dropped proceedings or failed to act before they left office. In those cases, corruption was the primary cause of complaint.
