Gavin Newsom Proposes 28th Amendment to Curb Gun Violence
Gavin Newsom, California Governor proposed a 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution in what he describes as an effort to end America’s gun violence crisis.
The amendment will permanently add four-gun measures that Newsom claims have broad support. Newsom says, “Because if you can’t buy a beer, you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun.”
Raise min. purchase age to 21 — Universal background checks Waiting period — Ban assault rifle sales
To get this off the ground, it will need at least two-thirds of the state's legislatures to propose, then three-fourths support to pass. It will be an uphill battle with more than half of the state legislatures under GOP control, but Newsom cites bipartisan support. He says that this will not abolish or supersede the Second Amendment.
