Hello there my name is James Kenney. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I started singing and writing songs at age 11 and haven’t stopped since. My dream has always been to share my voice with as many people as possible. And through my second time on X Factor this season, I was able to do that.
I’ve been so grateful for all the support I’ve received. People keep saying to me, “Don’t give up.” Well, your words have been a major inspiration. People have also been asking for music, and this is my chance to fulfill your requests. I’ll be recording an EP trilogy to cover all my bases: one entitled “Covers,” comprised of songs I sang on The X Factor along with other cover faves of my own; a second called “Songs In 3/4,” inspired by classic soul; and a third EP called “I Am James Kenney” that will be all new songs I will be writing just for this project.
One of my favorite quotes is “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans,” by John Lennon. Because it’s costly to make music, and I have a family to support, I haven’t had the means to record a lot of my own music. That’s why your contributions are so crucial for me to complete this project and let my voice be heard.
