Audie Leon Murphy was an American soldier, actor, songwriter, and rancher. He was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. He received every military combat award for valor available from the United States Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism.

By the end of World War II, Murphy had become one of the nation’s most-decorated soldiers, earning an unparalleled 28 medals (including three from France and one from Belgium). Murphy had been wounded three times during the war.

Audie Leon Murphy was the most-decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II. Among his 33 honors and decorations was the prestigious Congressional Medal of Honor, the U.S. military’s highest award for valor.
